A FOUR GENERATION VINEYARD

At just 20 kilometers north of Montevideo you will find the 52 acres of the Pizzorno Family States, a winery that focuses on tradition above everything. After all, they have been in the winemaking business for over 80 years and carry a family legacy of quality and excellence. The winery has been managed by four generations of Pizzorno family members and through all this time they have kept their essence. A visit to this winery is a trip to this winemaking family's history.

The winery produces 12 different grape varieties on its gentle slopes: Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Black Muscat, Arinarnoa, Marselan, and Sauvignon Blanc. As you can see, there is something for everyone to try no matter their taste in wine. Everything is handled with extreme care, from the grapes which are picked manually to ensure that only the best ones go to fermentation, to the bottles which are labeled by hand and not by a machine. In the Pizzorno Family States, everything is personal.

Since 2015, the winery has opened its doors to visitors as wine tourism has grown in the area. In that year a boutique was opened and guided tours started. Currently, there are different activities you can do at the winery. The most popular ones are wine tastings. There are several options to choose from depending on your wine preference and expertise. However, something that all tastings have in common is that they involve 4 different types of wine and some food. Most tastings include delicious empanadas, which are loved by visitors, while others include exquisite chocolate. This depends on the type of wine you decide to taste. If you are not sure, just ask one of the guides and they will orient you to make a good decision.

Guided Vineyard & Cellar Tours

All wine tastings involve a guided tour of the vineyards and the cellars. True to the nature of Pizzorno Family States, all tours are guided by a Pizzorno family member. This makes the tour more personal and unique. All tours are different and special since new anecdotes are told as time goes by. Also, you will be able to interact with the winery's workers and ask them questions about the winemaking process.

If you are feeling extra adventurous there are other options for you. The Pizzorno Family States offer flights over the Canelo Chico region and the city of Montevideo. You can do this either on a light aircraft or a helicopter. Just imagine seeing the beautiful scenery from above, followed by a guided tour and wine tasting once you land. This activity depends on availability and weather conditions so it is recommended to contact the winery beforehand to schedule it.

For those who desire a more relaxing trip, the winery also has an inn with 4 completely equipped rooms. You could spend the weekend at the Pizzorno Family States, enjoying their delicious wines and escaping the routine. Your hosts will make you feel like part of the family and answer any questions you may have about different types of wines and how they are made. You will also enjoy delicious food that is also available for people who don't stay at the inn.

The Pizzorno Family States is a family business and this is something you will feel during your visit. By keeping their wine production small, they can maintain the highest quality in their products with rigorous controls that include lab testing. The same effort they put into winemaking is put into welcoming their guests, and being guided by a family member will make this experience much more special. If you are looking for a small, cozy winery, this is the place to go!
