HIGH QUALITY WINES AT A SMALL SCALE
Bodega Bouza is a popular winery located in Melilla, about 15 minutes from Montevideo’s city center. It was established by Numa Pesquera, of Galician descent, as a small family enterprise in 1942, with the fundamental principles of love and respect for nature and the production.
In almost 78 years of history, they have slowly developed a variety of high-quality wines at a small-scale, thanks to the fact that the entire family is completely devoted and involved in each and every step of the production process. Now, they produce traditional varieties of wines, such as Merlot and Tannat, and other varieties such as Albariño or Chardonnay.
They have grown to a very welcoming and loving environment, hosting guided visits so that everyone can have the opportunity to taste their wines and the experience of walking through their picturesque vineyards. Additionally, you will be able to be completely immersed in an entirely different adventure, as the local guides share amusing facts about their past and their way of thinking.
You will be able to choose from a different set of activities, such as having lunch at their family restaurant or going to the tasting room to revel in some of their best wines. You will also have the opportunity to access a very select boutique, where you will be able to buy some of their exclusive wines, which are only available in that very specific place. As well, you’ll be able to buy all kinds of tools and souvenirs, perfect for any wine lover: photos, cups, corkscrews, etc.
Furthermore, as if this wasn’t enough, the place counts with their own exclusive museum. More than 30 classic and old cars are displayed here, this car collection belongs to the family and it’s something truly marvelous to see.
One of the most important things that they want you to know about them, and one of the mainstays of their mindset, resides in the fact that keeping production at a small-scale is what allows any company to provide the most excellent results. It goes all the way from the gigantic efforts of taking care of the vineyards to the pleasing moment when you taste the wine. In 78 years of sales, their wines have been awarded numerous trophies, including Best Uruguayan White Wine, several gold medals and other prestigious international awards.
The family firmly believes that, in the long term, all the effort that they are pouring into making wines will give them an incomparable reputation among local and international wine makers, and that is already showing.
Consequently, they are able to offer a wide variety of high-quality wines, starting with different kinds of Tannat, Albariño, Merlot and Tempranillo, such as Tempranillo Rosado, Merlot Tannat, Merlot, Tannat, Cocó, Tempranillo Tannat, Pinot Noir, and Tannat Pan de Azúcar, among several others.
